Best Practices for Treating High BMI in Kids and Teens

On June 18, 2024 the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) issued a recommendation statement regarding the best practices for treating high BMI in kids and teens.

The USPSTF recommends screening for obesity in children and adolescents aged 6 years and older. Early detection allows for timely interventions, such as behavioral counseling and support, which can help manage weight and reduce the risk of associated health problems.

The statement specifically notes  ‘Effective, high-intensity (≥26 contact hours) behavioral interventions result in greater weight loss than less intense interventions and result in some improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors.1’

NAMIO is proud to offer the highest level of evidence-based interventions in order to support kids and teens in improving health outcomes related to BMI and related comorbidities. The NAMIO app focuses on helping families improve health and wellbeing in the five areas that matter most: nutrition, physical activity, sleep, screen use, and mindfulness.
